Trading Your Bad Habit for Something Better

by Chris James

One of the catchphrases to describe mouth-to-mouth rescusitation used by life-saving instruction from the past has been:

“In with the good air … out with the bad.”

This thought can also be used when considering a stop smoking initiative to help you quit. It goes without saying that when it comes to quitting smoking, you are quite literally getting rid of the ‘bad air’ and replacing it with good. But you can use this information elsewhere as well.

Many experts now agree that a multi-faceted approach to smoking cessation gives you the greatest chance of successfully “breaking the habit.” In other words, those people who have enjoyed long term success away from smoking all seem to have one factor in common: These people did not rely on only tool in their smoking cessation plan. For example, they did not just use nicotine patches alone. They used another tool or tools - another product, plan or program - along with the nicotine patch to stop smoking.

Stangely, it would seem easy to break the habit with all the inconveniences nowadays in having to spend so much time just looking for a place to have a cigarette, never mind all the social disgraces that a smoker has to face while trying to do so.

Those smokers who replace their bad habit with a good one consistently achieve higher levels of success as opposed to those who do not. In addition, these people also enjoy life more as they enhance their well-being on entirely different levels.

It may sound complicated, but truly it is not. Change your bad habit to a good one starting today. Instead of wasting time trying to find somewhere to light up, step out and go for quick walk around the block. Instead of worrying about how you are going to find time to sneak outside for a cigarette, don’t! Grab some of those personal contacts you’ve been meaning to call or write and get on it. They’d love to hear from you. Using the good habit exchange with a good smoking cessation program will give you the tools you need to beat the bad habit forever.
