Hemroids hurt! But the not so bad news is that they are treatable and relief is available. Read on to find out how to cure your hemroids.
First, let’s talk about some ways you can change your habits. There are things you may be doing that are making your hemroids worse. These can include:
* Eating spicy foods or caffeine, alcohol and nuts
* Wiping your anal area too hard after eliminating or rubbing vigorously
* When on the toilet, straining or pushing
* Remaining immobile by sitting or standing in the same position for a long time. Shift your feet, position or take a quick walk.
Everything in the list above will make your hemroids worse, so stop doing them if you are. Next, we’ll look at wasy of eating that can help improve your hemroids.
* Notice if any other foods, including those above, make your hemroids flare up and avoid it
* Eat more fiber. Fiber will make it easier to “go” and you won’t need to push or strain.
* Consume at a minimum 8 glasses of water each day so your bowel movements are softer.
When you do have a flare up, it’s important to treat it immediately so it doesn’t get worse.
One of the most common hemroid treatments are over the counter medications, like Preparation H or Tucks medicated pads. However, the ingredients of these medications indicate they may not be safe for extended use.
Instead, consider hydrocortisone creams. These are anti-inflammatories, so they’ll help bring your hemroids down.
You can also use a soothing cream for pain relief containing zinc oxide. Diaper rash creams for babies contain zinc oxide and can help lessen your suffering.
Aerosol sprays are sometimes available that have numbing properties.
You’ll also want to make sure your patting down the area rather then wiping or rubbing after going to the bathroom. Baby wipes can be a great solution here, as they are gentle on your skin.
Icing your hemroids, followed by 10 minutes of a warm compress can provide significant pain relief, as can a sitz bath. If your hemroids are really bad, you may want to take to bed rest. It will relive pressure on your anal muscles and help relieve your hemroids.
Moisture is a bad thing for hemroids, so wear cotton undergarmets to keep yourself dry. If you’re using any hygiene products that have dyes or perfumes, stop. They’ll only irritate your skin more.
Following the steps above will help alleviate your pain. Check with your health care professional before starting any new treatments.
