1. Worms
Worms are very common and recurring problem among cats whatever breed. Cats are easily infected by tapeworms, roundworms and hookworms among others. If you observe your cat to gain weight, having problems with fleas, white specks in his stool, have your cat tested by your vet maybe for worms. 2. Dealing with Hairballs
The other common health problem of cats is hairball. All cats clean themselves regularly, usually they swallow their loose hair from their coats. Sometimes, loose hair if swallowed, gather into balls which will lodge in the digestive tract instead of going to the stool of the cat. Coughing and hacking are symptoms that your cat is developing hairballs in the digestive system. This should not worry us much though because cats can normally remove the hairball without causing any problem at all.
Although this happen rarely, the hairball can find its way through to the intestine of the cat which will block blockage in the digestive system. This can turn out to be dangerous and should worry you because its life threatening if not treated. If your cat suffers from constipation, stops eating normally, has a dull coat, then most probably the cat has a blockage. Its advisable to take the cat to the vet right away if these symptoms should show. We advice you to brush the hair the cat 2 to 3 times each week to control loose hair and also prevent blockages and hairballs.
3. Urinary Tract Infection
Cats also suffer from urinary tract infection. Male cats are more prone to Urinary Tract Infection than females. If the cat does not use the litter box then it probably is suffering from this sickness. If the urine of the cat has a strong smell, then this is an indication of a urinary problem. Take your cat immediately to the vet if you notice this proble. The vet can treat your cat and provide advice to prevent this disease from occurring later on.
4. Feline Leukemia Issues
The biggest issue that caused many deaths with cats many years back was feline leukemia. When vaccines were discovered to deal with this problem, it became less of a nuisance. Preventions is better than cure so its advisable to give the cat a shot cat before giving him the necessary exposure. Cats that are exposed to feline leukemia do not die on the spot but their life span is reduced. Feline leukemia is quite contagious so keep your cat away from those that are infected.
